There is a $50,000 reward for Lisa's remains you can't be anonymous.
I had many ideas for raising awareness about Lisa, but none seemed to take shape—until inspiration struck. Laura Palmer’s podcast series about missing Michael Dunahee reminded me of the tree and plaque the City of Victoria planted in his honour . This sparked an idea: what if the City of Nanaimo did something similar for Lisa? When I proposed the idea, the city not only embraced it but expanded it. Instead of dedicating the tree solely to Lisa, it became a memorial for Lisa and all Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit (MMIWG2S) people of Nanaimo. We chose a cherry blossom tree, reflecting Lisa’s girly nature, with the hope it might bloom around May 5—her birthday. The plaque features lyrics from Lisa’s Song by Allison Crowe and stands near the tree at Departure Bay Beach—a place where Lisa once played as a child with her family. This tree is a living symbol of remembrance and a call to action for justice and awareness.
